Thalia first found her passion for teaching as a Teaching Assistant at APA, since she was 7 years old. Gradually, she began choreographing and teaching her own dance classes at APA from the age of 13 and has continued teaching ever since. Thalia earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley, with a double major in Psychology and Cognitive Science and a minor in Disability studies. During her time there, she led several dance classes and workshops and served as Artistic Director of the Ballet Company at Berkeley. Her choreography has been featured in several performances in the Berkeley Dance Community as well as locally in Children’s Dance Theatre’s productions. As a dancer, she competed in Jazz and Tap and received pre-professional Ballet training under Gelsey Kirkland in New York as well as year-round training the American Ballet Theatre curriculum at Ballet San Jose (now: New Ballet School). She held principal roles in CDT’s Nutcracker such as Clara and Sugar Plum Fairy and has performed alongside professional company members in BSJ’s Nutcracker. In 2013, she ranked #1 in Ballet and #4 overall in the Dance Masters of California All Solo Scholarship Competition. As a teacher, Thalia places special focus on technique and performance. Additionally, she works with students to improve their memory, attention to detail, and proprioception, preparing them for future opportunities in dance and in life. Thalia loves seeing her students grow and improve! As their teacher, it is a privilege to foster that growth and to support her students as they learn to express themselves and foster lasting relationships with one another. |
